This week my attention was focused on writing up a historical report for a subject site. This particular site also happened to be the first on-site visit I have performed with SMG, so I was excited when presented with the opportunity to dig deeper into the site’s history. While writing up the report I included figures of Sanborn fire insurance maps and analysis of them from year to year, city directory information, renovation history, an interview with an archaeologist who had performed field work on the site and an associated historical site, and interviews with other sources who have historical recollection of the site’s history. The opportunity to piece together all of the important components of a historical write-up allowed me to set a new expectation for myself, and accomplish a task I had never done before. As I scroll through pages of facts and figures I feel a sense of success and thankfulness that I was trusted with this responsibility!
